About The School

Innovative application of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) largely remains untapped in Kenya, yet it has a huge potential for scientific discovery and production of commercializable products and services needed to contribute new solutions to difficult problems afflicting society in many sectors and should inevitably be mainstreamed in the scientific research agenda of this 21st Century. At the School of Science, Technology and Engineering (SSTE), we teach students STEM thereby effectively preparing them to be innovative and disruptive scientific thinkers; this being fundamental in enhancing scientific research, discovery, job creation, manufacturing and improved service delivery in the true spirit of the Kenya Vision 2030. In this long-term development policy, Kenya aims to transform into a newly industrializing, middle-income Country, providing a high quality of life to all its citizens by the year 2030 in a clean and secure environment. In particular, the central role of STEM in realization of this vision cannot be overstated, the scarce and much needed scientific research funds notwithstanding. Against the foregoing background, the SSTE is positioning to closely work with the National Government and the County Governments of Migori, Homabay, Kisumu, Siaya, Kisii, Kericho, Kakamega and Busia and international partners, among others to unleash the potential of STEM in solving the pressing and perennial problems in the region with a view to improving healthcare and enhancing agricultural production. As we welcome other strategic partners, we are particularly indebted to the Chinese Government through the Wuhan Textile University, China for providing enormous support for one of our main programmes. Furthermore, our Professors and Lecturers at the SSTE have identified public health and environmental challenges as key areas meriting intense scientific research with a view to providing local solutions to related problems that are unique to this region and beyond. At our School, we continue to engage our students in structured mentorship programmes in STEM as we aspire to make our School and Rongo University a world class place for game-changing and paradigm-shifting scholarly engagement. Our School, which is growing, currently has two departments that offer several courses in the Departments of Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences. As Dean I encourage you to explore the breadth and quality of the excellent academic programmes the School offers.

Departments in the School of Science, Technology and Engineering:
