To be a global center of excellence in media, democracy, peace and security research and practice

Recently the Horn of Africa has been faced with serious challenges regarding peace and security as has the African continent as a whole. Part ofthe problem, it has emerged; is that the media often covers conflict sensationally therefore fuelling more violence. This center seeks to provide an opportunity to develop new approaches in conflict/news reporting (Hybrid Peace Journalism or HPJ) in conflict prone societies like Kenya in a manner that would encourage peaceful dialogue and deliberation rather than fueling violence and hatred. HPJ seeks to explore and rationalize the possibility of Africanism and African philosophy thereof in Journalism as a radical departure from Western approaches of news production that lead to sensationalism.
